Nyck de Vries is preparing behind the scenes for the new season, when he will join AlphaTauri. Before then, another challenge may await the Dutchman as, according to
Motorsport.com, he is scheduled to drive the first free practice session in Mexico for Mercedes.
It would be De Vries' second time behind the wheel of a Mercedes this calendar year. In France, for instance, he already got to replace
Lewis Hamilton in the first session. De Vries will reportedly take
George Russell's seat in Mexico.
Apart from Mercedes, the driver has already competed for other teams this year. Williams put him behind the wheel in Spain, while Aston Martin gave him a chance at Monza. During the same weekend, De Vries was allowed to replace Albon at
Williams and eventually finished in the points.
De Vries completes switch to AlphaTauri
De Vries did himself an excellent favour at the
Italian Grand Prix, as several teams lined up for him in the weeks that followed. In the end, it was AlphaTauri that came out on top and recruited him as
Pierre Gasly's replacement.
