Nyck de Vries cannot wait to start working for AlphaTauri next season. The 27-year-old Dutchman had to wait a long time to get his chance in Formula 1, but talking to The Race, he says he has accepted.

While De Vries managed to win the 201 Formula 2 championship, he took the Formula E world title last year. Despite this, teams in Formula 1 remained doubtful for a long time whether he would be up to the level of the motorsport class.

When he was allowed to fill in for Alexander Albon at this year's Italian GP, he managed to convince them after all. "I still feel like I’m very young – and I still look very young, which helps!", laughs De Vries. "But I am a little bit of a late bloomer in life in general."

De Vries, however, is convinced that he can continue in Formula 1 for years to come and that his experience can help AlphaTauri. As Pierre Gasly's replacement, a big challenge awaits him, but De Vries seems confident that things will work out.

"I think a little bit of experience and maturity helps and obviously this is slightly new, but at the same time, I am very well aware that this industry is all about performance and competitiveness. I’m enjoying the moment. I’m not so conscious of the fact that I am living my childhood dream."
