Formula 1 series Drive to Survive is known for dramatising everything. As such, the whole situation surrounding Red Bull Racing and Christian Horner will be a feast for the Netflix show. The series' producer explains how the case will be incorporated into the series.
The sixth season of the Netflix series Drive to Survive premiered recently. The series is normally already highly subject to criticism, but the most recent season seemed to have more criticism than usual. According to viewers of the show, the past season totally failed to show relevant issues that did play out in Formula 1.
In recent times, the F1 world has been dominated by the allegations towards Christian Horner. Of course, Netflix have not missed this. The executive producer, James Gay-Rees, tells The Telegraph that the case will have to be referenced in the series in one way or another. "And they will all want it to be told in a particular way, so it’s about treading that line to keep everybody happy, and to keep Netflix happy, and us – so we can sleep at night with the decisions we’ve made."
The producer also elaborates on what he thinks of the business. "You have to have balance. I think Horner is looking OK for the time being, but it doesn’t feel like it’s done yet. It will all depend on how it plays out. I don’t know what he got up to – and I genuinely don’t have an opinion on it, but he’s been through it and you wouldn’t wish that on anybody." When Gay-Rees spoke to Horner about the matter, the team boss joked that everything was the fault of the Netflix series.
