Charles Leclerc will start the
Azerbaijan Grand Prix from pole position, and he will have
Oscar Piastri right beside him when the lights go out. Leclerc's teammate
Carlos Sainz will start in P3, with
Sergio Perez next in fourth place, The Mexican was able to out-qualify his teammate
Max Verstappen, who could only manage sixth, with
George Russell in P5. However, the other Mercedes of
Lewis Hamilton will have to start from the pit lane after changing his engine.
Hamilton had yet another poor qualifying session, only good enough to take P7. But an engine change after the session means he will now start off the grid, as will
Esteban Ocon, who also made a change to his engine after qualifying. It's another issue for Alpine, who had
Pierre Gasly disqualified right after qualifying with a fuel irregularity issue, meaning he states right at the back of the grid.
With all these changes to the grid, it means that
Lando Norris, who could only qualify in P17 in a shock result, moves up to P15 to start the race. Rounding out the top te is Fernando Alonso in P7,
Franco Colapinto in P8, Alex Albon in P9, and Ollie Bearman in P10, with rookies Colapinto and Bearman starting in the top ten for the first times in their
F1 career.
