Max Verstappen has secured a stunning pole position under the lights for the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix. The Dutchman headed Oscar Piastri and George Russell at the Jeddah Corniche Circuit. Lando Norris crashed out of the final qualifying session in sector one. It was an exciting session with tight margins separating the cars in every part of qualifying. One of the most challenging circuits on the Formula 1 calendar tested all 20 drivers under the bright floodlights tonight.
Q3 was electrified immediately as Lando Norris crashed in the first few minutes of the session. After the resumption, Max Verstappen managed a time good enough for pole.
What happened in the other parts of qualifying?
In Q1, Gabriel Bortoleto notably span at turn one on his final flying lap, which brought out a brief yellow flag. The Brazilian will start the race from P20.
In Q2, Lewis Hamilton survived a late scare and scraped his way out of the second session. Alex Albon and Williams were left disappointed by his 11th placed finish after some solid laps throughout the weekend.
In earlier's FP3, which was headed by Lando Norris, took place in unrepresentative conditions of qualifying. The Saudi sun beat down onto the circuit. In tonight's qualifying and tomorrow's Grand Prix, conditions will be similar under the lights.
