The 2021
Azerbaijan Grand Prix had a surprising podium, but
Ferrari was absent. While the Italian team made a good impression in Monaco, their performance during the race in Baku was disappointing.
Mattia Binotto however sees it as an instructive weekend.
The
Ferrari team boss saw
Charles Leclerc just miss out on the podium with a fourth finishing position, while
Carlos Sainz also picked up points with an eighth place. However, Binotto believes there is room for improvement.
"It was not the best race today from us. I think we were expecting something better after the quali. It has been a difficult race, we have not been perfect in many areas," he told
on the official Formula One website.
Ferrari wants to improve
Although Binotto is not entirely dissatisfied with the way his drivers drove, he knows that Ferrari can still make plenty of strides this season. "The result is what it is, as usual, it is a lesson learned. There are things we can improve, I’m sure of that."
"I think there are still two cars ahead of us that are stronger, no doubt," continued the team boss. "It was great to have pole positions both here and in Monaco, but I don’t think that’s reflecting our true performance overall."
