The FIA is set to introduce a new version of the Halo in 2021, the so-called 'version four', which should be better on the eye than the current Halo, which was received with a lot of criticism when first introduced.

After initially being met with a lot of negativity and criticism when it was first introduced at the start of the year, people started praising the Halo after the Belgian Grand Prix two weekends ago, as the brace protected Charles Leclerc from a very heavy impact as Fernando Alonso's car would've landed on his helmet.

Still, it's a sore in the eye, and it's hard to see the driver behind the Halo, which is why the FIA is planning to introduce a better version of it, one that is more aesthetically pleasing.

“There is further research going on for a new iteration, probably 2021, possibly more aesthetically pleasing to some, but that’s not the development reason for doing it,” F1 race director Charlie Whiting revealed to RaceFans.

When talking about the hit Leclerc took at Spa, Whiting explained that the Halo was designed to withstand much heavier hits than what the Monegasque's car did.

“We’re still investigating, trying to determine everything we can, but the initial conclusions are the Halo saw a load roughly half of the test load in more or less exactly the same place as one of the test loads is applied to the Halo.

“There was no distortion of the Halo.

"It was taken off, there was no buckling of it.

"The Sauber guys have crack-checked it and it seems to be absolutely fine.”
