Force India have been forced to temporarily stall their developmental work on this and next year's car until the financial problems are resolved, as the team went into administration at the end of July.
The team managed to participate in the Hungarian Grand Prix and even in the testing days that followed the race, but the Pink Panthers have now been forced to suspend their non-essential work. This will go on until a new owner for the team has been found. This means that upgrades on the current car that were in the pipelines can't be completed for now.
Force India have always prided themselves in being successful despite having the smallest budget in the sport but we think that a budget of zero dollars will be too small, even for Force India.
“The designs are done," team COO Otmar Szafnauer told Motorsport when talking about the upgrades that can't be completed now.
"It’s just a matter of paying suppliers to start building the tools and making the car parts."
Technical director Andrew Green put it a bit more bluntly, as he admitted that not having upgrades, albeit small ones, will move your team backwards compared to the competition.
“There are a few teams in that portion of the grid who seem to be just swapping places and alternating the scoring of points,” he explained.
“It’s still an arms race.
"If you bring new bits to the car and you make it go quicker you move forward.
"If you don’t bring new bits to the car you go backwards."
Let's hope that the situation will be resolved soon, so we can see Force India at the peak of their powers again!
