Force India will target McLaren in the constructor standings and feel that the struggling team is a realistic target to beat. Force India was stripped of their constructor points after effectively becoming a new team under the new ownership of a Lawrence Stroll-led consortium.

Otmar Szafnaeur, team principal of the team, believes that the McLaren team is a very realistic target to be aiming for after a string of promising performances from their car.

“Well, if we continue to do a good job and don’t crash into each other, I think realistically we should be targeting at least sixth in the Constructors’ Championship,” he is quoted by MotorsportWeek.

“It is attainable but not easy to do. I think (to finish) above that it will take some luck on our part or some misfortune on somebody else’s part.”

Force India had been on course for another strong haul of points in Singapore until their two drivers came to blows at turn three of the first lap, putting Esteban Ocon out on the spot.

Szafnaeur reassured media that the two had been reminded of their duties to the team going forward.

“It’s going to be no different to how it’s been – it’s just I think they forgot, so we’re going to remind them that they have to give each other enough room, especially on lap one and even leave margin for error,” he said.

“So, if something does happen, they don’t run into each other. We’ll remind them of that and show them how that can be done.”
