Force India admit they would allow
Esteban Ocon to move to Renault for next season if it is the correct thing to do.
Ocon is contracted to Mercedes, so is currently on loan at Force India - and in recent weeks, Motorsport.com understands that Mercedes are keen for Ocon to move to Renault in a bid to improve his development.
Renault would benefit from this as they have been looking for a replacement for
Carlos Sainz Jr, whose future is uncertain due to his contract with Red Bull.
Toto Wolff has the say in this deal and it would be a deal that would take Ocon from one of his customers and place him to more of a rival.
"We don't know. We can't comment. It's tricky, the situation," Wolff replied when asked about Ocon's future.
Force India admit that if this situation does arise, then they would have no say in the matter and would have to release the Frenchman.
"We try not to disclose the details of our driver contracts, but it's safe to say that we would have to release him," Force India's
Otmar Szafnauer said.
"If circumstances made it the best thing for us to do, we'd have to look at it. We like Esteban and he's done a great job for us. At the end of the day, it's our call. If Renault want to pay a bunch of money, I'll consider it!"
