Pierre Gasly's full wet weather tyres choice was an odd one on Sunday and it really didn't do the Frenchman any good.
Toro Rosso driver Pierre Gasly's decision to change to full wet weather tyres was a huge gamble as some rain fell.
The rain didn't last long at all and a couple of slow laps was then met by another pit stop to change back to slicks.
Both Toro Rosso drivers were called to come into the pits immediately after the rain began to fall, but Hartley didn't think it was wet enough for the wet tyres and his decision was vindicated by earning his second points finish of the season.
"The lap they told me to come in, I had the feeling that it was still going to be much quicker on slicks as long as I could survive turn six," Hartley told RaceFans.net.
"It was a downpour, it was absolutely the wrong decision. But I looked at the sky, I didn't go against the team, I just asked the question: 'I think I can do one more lap'."
Hartley said his strategy was to take it one lap at a time and see if the conditions worsened or remained the same.
"We stayed out one more lap, then we saw, 'OK, maybe we can do another'. It was good communication between both myself and the team to make the right decision to stay out there."
