It has been a torrid start to the season for
Ferrari, and now the CEO of tyre provider
Pirelli has admitted the sport needs to see a
Ferrari victory to help "generate a completely different dynamic".
Mercedes have won every single race this season, with
Lewis Hamilton winning five and
Valtteri Bottas topping the podium on two occasions. In contrast, the Scuderia's best results in 2019 are Sebastian Vettel's P2 in both Monaco and Canada.
Vettel was cruelly denied a first win of the season at the
Canadian Grand Prix after he was handed a five-second penalty for re-entering the track in an unsafe manner. He was unable to build enough of a gap to beat Hamilton who was gifted his fifth win by the stewards.
With the wait for a first
Ferrari win going on the Pirelli CEO, Marco Tronchetti Provera admitted the sport needs a Ferrari win.
“Ferrari victories in Formula 1 are good for everyone,” Provera told Italian radio Rai.
“A Formula 1 without a competitive Ferrari loses its appeal. I know that I should be neutral, but a victorious Ferrari generates a completely different dynamic in Formula 1.
“And then I am also Italian, so a Ferrari victory is simply close to my heart.”
