Lando Norris ended the first free practice session for the
Australian Grand Prix as the fastest driver. The Brit was narrowly quicker than
Max Verstappen and
George Russell. See the full results of the session here.
In the first free practice session, the field was very close together. Although Norris was fastest of the session on behalf of
McLaren, the top six were within a tenth of each other. Verstappen, Russell,
Charles Leclerc,
Yuki Tsunoda and Sergio Pereez all fell just short of making off with the fastest time themselves.
Lance Stroll,
Carlos Sainz,
Lewis Hamilton and
Oscar Piastri complete the top ten. The most notable name in the list is Tsunoda. With a fifth time, he showed that there is pace in the VCARB 01.
Daniel Ricciardo ended the session in eleventh. Fernando Alonso got no further than P18 due to a slide earlier in the session.
