Max Verstappen,
Red Bull Racing and Honda have been at loggerheads so far. This combination has dominated every session it has participated in since the winter test. Is this the start of a 'boring' season? Well no, behind Verstappen there are some very interesting things happening.
After the first run, it looked like
Lewis Hamilton could get the pole position, but a gap of four-tenths is something even Hamilton himself would envy.
Mercedes has lost quite a bit of ground compared to last season as can be seen by how close the midfield suddenly gets. Qualifying beast
Charles Leclerc is within a tenth of
Valtteri Bottas and
Pierre Gasly and the McLarens are not far away either. The fact that Alonso manages to qualify in the top ten on his return also deserves credit.
The biggest losers of the day are without a doubt
Sergio Perez and
Sebastian Vettel. Perez was sent out in Q2 on the medium tyre when he clearly didn't have the speed for it.
Vettel's lap was interrupted by a yellow flag.
