George Russell recorded the fastest time in the second free practice session for the
Mexican Grand Prix. The session was dominated by the Pirelli tyre test, but the Briton was allowed to drive around on the 2022 tyres for 45 minutes. Indeed, Russell had to cede FP1 to
Nyck de Vries.
Yuki Tsunoda and
Esteban Ocon also had to miss the first practice session. The drivers finished second and third in FP2 using the soft tyres. The rest of the field was obliged to use 2023 Pirelli tyres for an hour and a half, so they did not come close to the top three.
Lewis Hamilton recorded the fastest time on the new Pirelli tyres.
Charles Leclerc ended in the wall midway through FP1 and could not continue his session.
Max Verstappen finished in sixth place, while
Sergio Perez recorded the fifth-fastest time.
