Max Verstappen will start on pole position on Sunday during the
Qatar Grand Prix. The
Red Bull Racing driver set a time in qualifying that no one could come close to. With a difference of more than four tenths, the 26-year-old Dutchman was again particularly dominant on the Losail International Circuit.
Norris seemed to be quick enough to start second on Sunday, but for the second time in Q3 the
McLaren driver lost his time after he left the track with all four of his tyres.
George Russell benefited from this and can therefore start from the front row.
Sergio Perez and
Carlos Sainz were the biggest surprises who failed to advance to Q3. The
Red Bull Racing driver initially seemed lucky with a tenth fastest time, but his time was also deleted by the race controll. Sainz - unlike teammate
Charles Leclerc - achieved the 12th fastest time, also not enough for a place in the top ten.
Kevin Magnussen and
Guanyu Zhou will start from the final row of the grid on Sunday. The row in front consists of
Lance Stroll and Liam Lawson, who did not reach Q2 for the first time since Zandvoort.
