Pierre Gasly was disappointed to be knocked out of qualifying so early on. He expected, and hoped, for the rain full to continue through the whole of the afternoon. He admitted Toro Rosso have fallen behind rivals as they’ve been out developed.
Gasly will start today’s Grand Prix from 16th place behind Force India, Sauber, a Williams and a McLaren. In the form Sauber and Charles Leclerc are in, it looks likely that Toro Rosso will move down to 9th in the constructors' championship by 5pm this evening.
The young Frenchman was very disappointed to be where he was yesterday.
“It’s such a shame to go out in qualifying so early," Gasly told the chequered flag. “We hoped we would see some rain for the session but it didn’t happen, unfortunately.”
It’s possible the rain will return during today’s race giving Gasly something to be hopeful about. Gasly then went on to explain how Toro Rosso have been out developed by other teams.
“It’s pretty difficult for us at the moment because the other teams are improving and we haven’t made the step forward we would have liked, so we need to work hard to catch the others. I know the team is working flat out, but we are still struggling with pace.”
