Mercedes driver George Russell is looking forward to the Hungarian Grand Prix. The young Briton surprised friend and foe last year by putting his Mercedes in pole position, and he hopes to do so again this year, he says.

"I'll be pushing for it for sure," said the one-time race winner about his dream starting position. "I'm looking forward to seeing what the weekend's going to hold. It's been an interesting few races with our performance in Austria, then really quite strong in Silverstone. We're still battling forward, and we're still really focused to keep progressing."

It is very exciting between the top teams behind Red Bull. It varies weekly which teams share the podium with Max Verstappen and Red Bull. "You see Aston, at the start of the year, were really, really strong. They've maybe taken a small step backwards. Same with Ferrari at certain races."

'Getting closer to Red Bull'

In fact, the Briton thinks Mercedes has been slowly catching up with the Austrians. "I'm sure even Red Bull, to a small degree. You know, at some races, they were 30 seconds ahead. Last week they were three seconds ahead, albeit with the safety car, but they weren't running away with things. So we are closing that gap. We're still pushing for more and trying to get some race wins along the way."

Biography of Russell?

Then there was a remarkable moment during the press conference ahead of the Grand Prix. Russell was asked if he had already read his biography, which was supposedly released early this month. Russell looked wide-eyed at the journalist in question: "I am not aware of this at all. I will definitely check it out. I am curious, and I will check it out. Is it on Amazon?"
