Despite impressively finishing in P7 and P8 at Spa Francorchamps last weekend, Haas team principal
Guenther Steiner doesn't know whether the new updates on the cars actually did anything for the American team.
With Renault finishing outside of the points, as Nico Hülkenberg spectacularly crashed in the first corner and Carlos Sainz couldn't climb into the points, Haas have edged ever closer to the French team in the standings. Just six points separate the teams now with eight races to go, the battle for best of the rest looks closer than ever.
Haas, who have a Ferrari-powered car, will likely have an advantage over Renault at Monza this weekend, as the track typically favours the more powerful cars.
When asked by Motorsport whether he knew the new updates were any good, Steiner sounded puzzled.
"No," he said.
"We need to look at the data.
"I think none of the two [updates] is wrong.
"We have to see which gives us the better data, but we haven't done that yet."
Then, he was asked whether Monza would be a good opportunity for Haas to catch Renault, as it indeed is a track that should favour their more powerful car. The answer was equally as cryptic.
"I know it is an opportunity, I don't know if it is a good one.
"I tell you that one after Monza!
"There are a lot of things to be done until we do it, but for sure we try as I always say.
"Renault, they are a good team - They will fight for it.
"They will not hand us over the fourth position."
