Having won his home race eight times already,
Lewis Hamilton is in his element back at
Silverstone, where - unlike
Max Verstappen - he can count on a warm welcome. In fact, the
Mercedes driver is so positive he believes he can compete at the front of the field for victory.
Many
Formula 1 teams are taking updates to
Silverstone, including Mercedes. The German team hopes to take a big step towards solving its problems, but also hopes to close the gap to
Ferrari and
Red Bull Racing.
Hamilton believes in victory at Silverstone
As far as Hamilton is concerned the
British Grand Prix is an excellent opportunity to do so. Asked by Martin Brundle if he can achieve his ninth home win this weekend, the Mercedes driver replied with a resounding 'yes!'.
"That is what we will be working on together," Hamilton said during a
Sky Sports broadcast.
"We have had a difficult year, and it's definitely not what we have been hoping for but I feel like we have strengthened in so many other ways," the Briton continued. He praised the hard work of the staff at the Mercedes factory and stated that the difficult start to the season had brought the team "closer together". "We are working towards that first win. It would be an incredible result if we got that this weekend," Hamilton said.
