Red Bull have plans to bring in a post-testing upgrade when they arrive in Melbourne for the opening race of the season.
Lewis Hamilton believes this upgrade could give Red Bull almost half-a-second making life a little bit more difficult in the Mercedes garage.
Mercedes were on top in terms of power but results show from pre-season testing that Red Bull have managed to close the gap.
The World Champion said: “They have some sort of upgrade coming, of some magnitude two-to-four tenths or something like that - that’s what I heard.
“They have generally a slightly different philosophy, they always build a car that has lots of downforce. Their maximum downforce has always been more than everyone else’s.
“But that doesn’t work always everywhere. Some places where you have longer straights - because they’re very slow on the straights, normally, but they’re fast through the corners. This advantage shifts through the year.”
Hamilton also signalled that all teams are closer together suggesting the racing will be much closer than previous.
“I think this year is going to be exciting, because last year there was a big difference between teams in the beginning and then they got closer.
“But this year it starts close and then its going to overlap and separate and overlap during the year as people are developing.”
Lewis is certainty suggesting something that the fans would love to see even if it comes at his cost. However, are Mercedes hiding some upgrades of their own?
