Lewis Hamilton lost his championship lead yesterday in the Canadian Grand Prix. He came fifth whilst rival Sebastian Vettel brought home the win for Ferrari pushing him one point ahead.
But Hamilton remains confident that the Ferrari’s will make vital errors in the coming races in his pursuit for a fifth World title.
“There is no reason to lose control, we just keep doing what we’re doing, keep our heads down, keep motivated and keep pushing because they will falter,” Hamilton said when talking to Sky Sports F1.
Earlier in the week, Toto Wolff confirmed that Mercedes and their customer teams will receive the engine upgrade. However, this was held back for the French Grand Prix in two weeks time.
Hamilton confirmed after the race that he was struggling for power from an engine that is now seven race weekends old.
“I’m just so happy that I finished as from the start I was down on power and my engine was saying it was over temperature,” added Hamilton.
“I thought it was going to fail. Every single lap I was kind of on edge waiting for the power to drop away and disappear.
“It kept dropped and coming back - it’s the seventh race of the engine so it saw its life and I could have lost a lot more points today.”
The Brit then went on to send a message to the FIA suggesting that teams and drivers need to be given more engines next season because otherwise “it will get ridiculous.”
“The fact a season could sway through reliability - the sport is going in the wrong direction,” continued Hamilton.
