Lewis Hamilton secured another podium finish at the Austrian Grand Prix. While the Briton is proud of the points he secured for the team, he is also aware that there is still much to be gained for Mercedes.
Hamilton crossed the finish line over forty seconds later than Charles Leclerc, who took the victory. Max Verstappen also had a big lead on the seven-time world champion, so the British driver knows there is still plenty of work to be done.
"These guys were like 30-something seconds ahead of me," Hamilton told on the FIA press conference. "Down the straights I was just watching where they were. I could see them coming through like Turn 6 as I was coming out Turn 1. So I was getting a bit of a fan view of what was happening. I saw some of the overtakes they were having. I think they did replays and stuff. But after such a difficult weekend, you know, with the crash, with a monumental effort from the team to rebuild the car this is a really great result."
His teammate George Russell also managed a good result. The countryman was good for fourth place, keeping Esteban Ocon and Mick Schumacher behind him. Sergio Perez, Carlos Sainz and Nicholas Latifi were unable to finish the race.
