When talking to UBS Formula 1Lewis Hamilton said that Fernando Alonso was the toughest teammate he's ever raced against in their time at McLaren in 2007
Both Hamilton and Alonso were brought to McLaren in 2007. Alonso was expected to win titles, Hamilton was there as a rookie to gain experience and try his hardest. McLaren completely underestimated the talent of the young Hamilton, however, and an intense rivalry between the two drivers was born. Looking back on that, Hamilton thinks that the Spaniard was the best out of all his teammates.
"Fernando is clearly the best driver I've driven against," he revealed.
"Rosberg was tough too but for different reasons.
"Every driver has his traits, that's the fun thing about racing."
He makes the clear distinction that Rosberg was more of a mental opponent than a brilliant driver. Whether that's true or not, he's had some great battles with both Rosberg and Alonso.
Looking ahead to this season, Hamilton explains his approach on the new season and his rivalry with Sebastian Vettel.
"I switch everything off and start over, I don't come here as a champion.
"It's cool to compete against another car and the battles are cool.
"We have intense battles, but I wouldn't want it any differently.
"The better the opposition, the more joy I get out of winning."
