Lewis Hamilton has qualified fifth in Spain. The Briton may start from fourth place due to Pierre Gasly's grid penalty. During free practice, the Mercedes driver suffered a lot from a bouncing car, he told GPblog and others during a press briefing.
"It was definitely a lot better today. Yesterday it was bouncing a lot more. Today I didn't really have much bouncing. Maybe in Turn 14 it starts to bounce a bit. But it's slowly getting better. If you look at the Ferraris, they're bouncing way more than us." Hamilton said.
During qualifying, the two Mercedes collided. Luckily for them, George Russell's action went unpunished. Mercedes made some hefty adjustments to the car. Hamilton explained in detail where the problems of bouncing occurred.
"There's a couple of other people that are bouncing. What we've got to just work on is that the Aston has our rear end. And I don't think they're bouncing. So we've got to figure out what it is. It's obviously aero bouncing, so how the air flows through the tunnels underneath the car. Something going on in that storm underneath. We've got to perfect it." said the seven-time world champion.
The MB onboards show a very stable car.....so the upgrades are doing what they need to do....higher driver confidence...refinement to close the gap to the front. No wins yet, but the the general upbeat mood, welcome after a very long winter of uncertainty...
Easy thing lewis higher car up or is lewis going do his back prob to get fia chancge rules
Practically every team was bouncing more on this surface. The RB was worse than the mercedes and the ferrari had the most bounce on this circuit. Martin and Mclaren seemed to have the least porpoising on this circuit. Expect Alonso to quickly climb the field. Hope to see him on the podium
