Lewis Hamilton has taken another huge step towards the f1 world title this morning as he
took a dominant pole position at the
Japanese Grand Prix, with his
Ferrari rival
Sebastian Vettel down in ninth after a mix up.
For much of the season it has been Ferrari that have had the fastest car, although they have been unable to take advantage of this pace benefit.
There have been mistakes on behalf of both driver and the team, such as the time Vettel crashed out of the lead at the German Grand Prix when under no pressure at all, and then today in qualifying when Ferrari sent Vettel out in Q3 on intermediate tyres, only for Hamilton to come out on slicks and set a much faster time.
This has been the downfall of Ferrari’s title challenge and the reason why Hamilton believes that his Silver Arrows squad is the best team on the grid.
“It is so difficult out there to make the call but I think that’s another real big difference we’ve made this year.
“Every team has smart people but ultimately when it comes to being under pressure, making the right decisions and the right calls, that’s why we are the best team in the world and rightly so.
“The Ferraris pulled out the garage on the inters and I honestly didn't’ think it was the right decision. Obviously we made the right decisions a team.
“Today there was no mistakes made, even though there was pressure on us still, as there always is in qualifying, everyone was cool, calm and collected.”
