With only the fifth Grand Prix scheduled to take place this weekend, Williams are already looking ahead to the 2026 season. Still, Carlos Sainz believes they can complete a successful season. With the 2026 regulation change on the cards, the Groves-based team are already focusing on the upcoming season. Sainz, who did not finish the Bahrain GP, explains there is hard work done in completing their setup to find time, but he is not counting on many upgrades.
Sainz counts on major step forward
However, the Spaniard does not lay back. Speaking to GPblog among others in Jeddah, he explained with achieving better balance with the setup, pace can be still extracted from the car.
“This is one thing that I'm being very clear with the team is if we manage to improve this, there is a lot of potential in this car, a lot of potential in this team.”
He continued: “If we manage to unlock what is doing this and what part of the car is doing this, I'm 100% sure we can do very big steps forward, which is also actually quite an encouraging thing. At the same time, my experience tells me it takes years of development, and of experience, and trial and error to know exactly what potentially could be holding it back.”
According to the driver, Williams remain motivated to come up with solutions, and he is also trying to achieve that.
"This is where I'm being very pushy about that, even if we're not going to develop this car we need to work as if we were going to, to make sure we understand as much as as many things as possible this year to try to apply things for next year,” he concluded.
