Former
F1 driver Johnny Herbert has given his opinion on debutant
Oscar Piastri's season. The young Australian is having a strong debut season in
Formula 1 and showed his talent especially at Spa-Francorchamps. Herbert also sees the
McLaren driver's development and is full of praise for him in an interview with
CasinoSite.
Strong debut season for Piastri
Oscar Piastri is making a strong impression so far in his first
Formula 1 season. Despite a disappointing start in the first few races, Piastri certainly showed in the last few races that he is cut from the right racing cloth. Especially in qualifying and the sprint race at Spa, the Australian showed impressive things. He managed to give
Max Verstappen a hard time in the Sprint Shootout and in the sprint race.
Johnny Herbert also saw Piastri shine. He indicated: "
Oscar Piastri could make it to the top. The way he has developed this year has been impressive for everyone to see. He has settled down in the team and McLaren have done well to make sure both their drivers are comfortable." Piastri confirmed this himself recently and revealed that he feels he is in the right place at McLaren.
Herbert: 'Statements by Norris are due to pressure from Piastri'
However, Herbert also sees that Piastri is slowly but surely starting to increase the pressure on
Lando Norris:
"Lando has said the car isn’t quite working for his style, that he wants but that’s because he is under pressure from Oscar. That’s why those comments come out. Oscar is the standout so far this year because of the way he has improved and he is taking it to Lando and we know how good Lando is." The Briton sees that the upgrades have worked well for McLaren and he notes that has also helped Piastri's development.
