The Netflix series Drive to Survive has endeared
Formula 1 to the general public, especially in the United States. So did
Christian Horner: the
Red Bull Racing team principal says he used to not be so easily recognised, but that is different these days.
Horner became famous because of Drive to Survive
The Red Bull boss is married to Geri Halliwell, also known as Ginger Spice. The singer used to be part of the Spice Girls and is still frequently recognised by passers-by. Horner says that the same thing has happened to himself since Drive to Survive aired.
"
We used to come here, and it would be my wife at immigration that they were all looking for a selfie with," says the 49-year-old Brit, who celebrates his 50th birthday on 16 November, in
Max Verstappen's interview with Time Magazine.
"Now they go, ‘Hey, you’re the dude from Drive to Survive!'"The Netflix series, which also became a big hit among people not yet familiar with
F1, has made celebrities out of more drivers and team owners.
Daniel Ricciardo, for instance, is hugely popular in America, but Haas team boss
Guenther Steiner is also considered one of the show's big stars.
