During the 2024 season, former driver
Johnny Herbert received criticism, among others from
Jos Verstappen. The Briton, who also acts as an
FIA steward, was involved in handing out penalties to the Dutchman, and also criticised the now four-time world champion himself multiple times. According to Herbert however, there are no issues between him and Verstappen Sr.
Herbert: 'No problems between me and Verstappen'
"Within the paddock you just move on. Yes, you have your disagreements and frustrations but you just move on. That’s the only way," Herbert stressed talking to
Coinpoker.com. Therefore, the Briton explains there are no issues between him, and Max and
Jos Verstappen.
"There is no lingering animosity with drivers or their fathers. Everyone knows being a steward is a difficult job. I have not felt it has impacted on any relationships I have in the paddock. Everyone has enough respect for each other," the driver turned steward continued.
As a steward,
Johnny Herbert was present at multiple of penalties given to Verstappen over last season in
F1. First, he was present when the Dutchman was handed a community service penalty for swearing back in Singapore. Later, Verstappen got two ten-second time penalties in Mexico for his maneouvres when fighting
Lando Norris. There, it was questioned whether the incident only warranted a five-second punishment instead.
