Williams driver
Robert Kubica thinks the problems the team is suffering this season are easier to fix than the ones in 2018, when the Pole functioned as
Williams' reserve driver behind
Lance Stroll and Sergey Sirotkin.
After the team's worst-ever season in 2018, Williams seem to have another season of struggles ahead of them. The FW42 is several seconds off the pace and has finished in the last two places (of the people that finished) in both Australia and Bahrain.
In Bahrain,
George Russell and Kubica, who were evenly matched, were almost four seconds slower than pole-sitter
Charles Leclerc.
However, Kubica revealed Williams are aware of the problems, and what's needed to fix these problems.
“In some ways, it’s easier problems to solve as you know the area and you know what’s lacking,” the Grand Prix winner told Crash.net.
“Last year it was much more complicated, the limitation of the car was changing and was very inconsistent."
The team knows what's wrong, but as is always the case in
Formula 1, these problems won't disappear overnight.
“But from the other hand it’s difficult to change something in a couple of months if you arrive with this, it’s difficult as we struggle to create, to put the grip into the car, the downforce, and there is always a reason but it’s true also that you need to unthink new ideas or something that could unlock a lot of improvements. We just need to make sure it will happen and as soon as possible.
“I think last year the issues were completely different and were difficult to predict. It was a bigger shock why we struggled so much but there were corners where we were not struggling and the car was quite competitive.”
