Williams driver Robert Kubica might have closed the gap between himself and teammate George Russell compared to the Australian Grand Prix qualifying, where Kubica was 1.7 seconds off, but Kubica still thinks the two cars are behaving differently.
Although Russell still out-qualified the Pole, it was only by a tenth of a second, a great improvement compared to the whopping difference in Melbourne.
Still, the 34-year-old thinks the results of him being so close behind his teammate are misleading, as the two cars still aren't identical in his eyes.
"There were a few issues in qualifying which we have to go through," Kubica was quoted by Motorsport.
"But the main answers we are getting from this week is that two cars with the same set-up are operating completely differently.
"I left Australia confused and doubted myself with the set-up because it was clear that the two cars were completely different to drive.
"Coming here, we started with the same configuration for both cars and the characteristics were completely different.
"Nothing has changed. The lap times… They don't mean anything with the characteristics the same.
"Maybe George did not get a lot out of the car. Honestly, I do not think that we are in the position to look into lap times when we are having bigger issues which are affecting the feeling and the performance.
"Too many people are focused on myself and I think in the current situation, the smallest problem is that I have been away from F1 for eight years.
"It is fundamental to have two cars running the same way."
Kubica will once again start the Grand Prix from last place.
