Lando Norris lost his lead at the top of the F2 championship in Austria. He joined fellow British driver
Lewis Hamilton who also lost his lead in the drivers' standings a week before the
Silverstone Grand Prix.
Silverstone forms the final part of the sports first tripleheader. And it's these three races which have taken their toll on 18-year-old Norris.
"I was knackered last Monday - but still needed to get my racing gear washed," Norris said in a column on Sky Sports.
"But spare a thought for Carlin 'truckie' Geoff Hallam - who was driving the 800-miles from [Paul] Ricard to RBR [Red Bull Ring], 16 hours behind the wheel spread over three days. He's [now] heading to Silverstone."
In total, it's around 1,000miles from the track in Austria to Silverstone. The tripleheader is not only energy sapping for the drivers and engineers involved but also a major challenge logistically.
The 2019 calendar is yet to be finalised and confirmed, but there are strong rumours we won't be seeing a tripleheader next season.
Norris went on to confirm that tyre management was also a serious challenge in F2. Something he needs to work on before heading to his home race.
"The Sprint race was really tough. I must have over-cooked the tyres and it was then just a spiralling effect in terms of no grip regards to traction, braking, everything. It was my mistake.
"I didn't do a good enough job tyre saving and paid the price by losing the championship lead."
What a weekend for the British fans it could be. Not only can they win their respective races, but if Norris and Hamilton do, they'll both regain the lead in the championships.
