This is why Norris isn't hopeful about challenging Verstappen in Monaco

Since Austria 2023, McLaren has dramatically turned their fortunes around, and even look like they can now consistently fight for race wins in 2024, after Lando Norris' maiden victory in Miami. Despite this, Norris isn't getting his hopes up for Monaco.

Why Norris isn't getting his hopes up for the Monaco weekend

"It's still our biggest weakness, when we're saying it's our biggest weakness, we're talking about maybe half a tenth at times," Norris says about the slow corners, "But Monaco, you set up only for slow speed and nothing else. I think that's where maybe it plays a little bit more back into our hands, or not our hands, but it's just not as far-fetched as what it is in some other circuits."

Despite being critical of how his car may handle the slower corners compared to high speeds, Norris looked back on his previous Monaco results with optimism. "Last year was not our best year in terms of delivering here in Monaco, but we've not been bad here in the past and we've improved a lot since then. We didn't have our upgrade here last year, so a lot of things have improved since then. We've improved slow speed as well. I'm hopeful that it will be a good weekend.

Norris managed to finish in P9 last year and hasn't finished outside of the points at Monaco since 2021, where he took P3. In the last three race weekends, Norris has either finished first or second. His victory came in the Miami Grand Prix, and he was chasing down Max Verstappen in the closing stages of the event in Imola, only to come seven-tenths short.
