It was one of the most talked-about driver duos in Formula 1 when Lewis Hamilton and Fernando Alonso drove together for McLaren. It was by no means a happy partnership, but Hamilton is not ruling out a renewed collaboration, telling DAZN.
Mclaren thought it had found a golden duo in 2007. A two-time world champion alongside a mega-talent. Alonso came over from Renault after two world titles to give the people from Woking a title, while young Hamilton was the up-and-coming racing talent on the English side. It ended in a fiasco.
The drivers could not get along and regularly tried to get in each other's way, quite literally. Both drivers still had a chance of winning the world title in the final race, but due to a fierce rivalry, they had lost so many points that number three in the standings, Kimi Räikkönen, could still catch up.
In the end, it was the Finn who grabbed the world title in Brazil. The two McLaren drivers had gotten in each other's way too much during the season, leaving Raikkonen to take the trophy. Tensions ran so high that the Spaniard decided to return to Renault after a year. Hamilton stayed put and a year later captured his first world title with the British team.
Now, 16 years later, seven-time world champion Hamilton is not ruling out a new partnership with two-time world champion Alonso. "If the stars align, I would drive with Alonso in the same team. But I don't think they will."
If you are going to write such an article...at least speculate at which team....else it's just permutations in a vacuum
They are both to retire in a few years in their current teams, so not happening. Now Hamilton matured, it would actually work out. Both are actually pretty similar, living their playboy lifestyle, girlfriends changing daily, giving 100% to racing and having fun, not thinking about family or kids. Alonso just has more character and a sense of humour, but many similarities between these 2.
Sounds like the negotiations at Mercedes for his new contract are not going well. Otherwise why even make a comment like that, that he would drive in a different team.
Well vegan said that lewis contrat was alĺ done but looks like merc not want to pay over the odes for a driver that slates team off .and not won any races for 18 months
Understatement. If rumours are true, Lewis should accept the 1 year $20 m deal and be grateful he isn't shown the door.
And that would be a dream season for the end of his career. Final showdown. I'm rooting for it.
@Vegan I will miss them both. Their season together again at the end of their careers with the same car. Who wouldn't want to see it that way. I think they would be the main stars of that season. To clear up doubts, which of them is better. Was Lewis, as a rookie, actually just had lucky and with a lot of help from the team, able to oppose the current champion. However, in the end they remained tied, and it would be ideal now as both experienced and champions, if they finally solved it, so that there is no more confusion. It could be BP/LH's proposal for a new sequel to the film, to return the plot to the past.
Don't think even Lewis would be that silly given what he's been the recipient of from Fernando past 2 seasons.
At least Lewis has been the recipent of double world champion as long as that guy who s been oftten compared with other F1 greats champion never had the courage to propose to his bosses to bring a F1 champion as a teammate..It's easy to shine along some juniors like Albon or Gasly ...
