Reigning champion and championship leader
Lewis Hamilton is under investigation ahead of the
Austrian Grand Prix tomorrow, as the five-time champion allegedly impeded
Kimi Raikkonen in Q1 of qualifying on a flying lap.
The Ice Man was looking to pass Hamilton in the run-up to the slow turn 3 at the Red Bull Ring, but the Brit, who was on the inside, was driving on the apex of the right-hander, forcing Raikkonen to take evasive action. The Finn gave his rival a middle finger for his efforts.
Fans were quick to point out
Sebastian Vettel got a grid penalty in Austria last season for a very similar incident, when the German impeded
Carlos Sainz. The stewards are currently investigating the issue, with a verdict coming soon.
Hamilton eventually qualified in second behind pole sitter
Charles Leclerc, but could drop further down the grid if a penalty is indeed awarded.
To be continued.
