Lewis Hamilton congratulated his fellow countryman Lando Norris on his first Formula 1 victory and told him to change his plans regarding a trip home. Hamilton is delighted to see his friend win his first race on behalf of McLaren.
Hamilton has won 103 Formula 1 Grands Prix. The seven-time World Champion has been the flagbearer of Formula 1 for almost two decades but is pleased to see his fellow countryman win his first race. Hamilton even gave Norris some tips regarding celebrations.
"I feel really happy for Lando. I told him he needs to stay tonight. He will try to change his flight. He's got to change his flight, he's just won a race. Such a special moment to win a race. I started at McLaren, so really happy to see them back at the top. It's been a long time," Hamilton told Sky Sports.
Hamilton himself has been struggling in 2024, but he also secured his best result of the season so far. He explains Mercedes finally found a really good set-up and the 39-year-old even got close to dueling with Sergio Perez.
"A really good day. I'm happy with the set-up. We finally got that sorted. To be able to move forward and battle with a few drivers...one was close to ending! It was great to see a Red Bull and Ferrari in the distance," Hamilton concluded.
