On the whole, it was disappointing weekends for
Haas with
Kevin Magnussen finishing in P17, while his teammate
Romain Grosjean came through in 15th as Haas went pointless in Japan. The Danish driver qualified in 19th, so did make up a couple of places in the race.
It was a strong start by Magnussen, quickly moving up six positions to 13th, but he fell back a couple of places towards the end of the race.
“I started last and got up to P12, which I was fairly happy about, but after that it went south. It wasn’t terrible in terms of tires and pace, not like previous races at least, " Magnussen said in his
post-race review with Haas.
"If we’d hooked everything up, and if I’d started where I should have, and made as good a start as I did, then I’d obviously have been in a much better position. We just didn’t have the pace today.”
