Haas F1's Kevin Magnussen has acknowledged that his team needs to find some more consistently if they want to catch up with Renault in the standings, as the American outfit has been very up and down this season.
Haas looked a different team this season, as both Magnussen and Romain Grosjean found great pace in the first Grand Prix in Australia, fighting with the Red Bulls in qualifying. But those great weekends are compensated by weekends like the one in Monaco. Magnussen and Grosjean started at the very back of the field then as they were the slowest in qualifying (even slower than the Williams cars!).
Magnussen, who has already scored more points this season than he did last two seasons combined, was asked at the drivers' press conference how high Haas are aiming this year.
"On a good weekend, our car is good enough to be the fourth best team," Magnussen explained.
"What we got to eliminate is those bad weekends.
"I think Renault are pretty far ahead in the points, but it's still a very long season, but they seem to be very consistent.
"Perhaps too consistent for us this year.
"From fifth to eighth it's very close so hopefully we can fight for fifth."
Magnussen has been blatantly outperforming his teammate Grosjean this year. The Frenchman still hasn't scored a point this year. He's the only driver who hasn't scored a point alongside Williams rookie Sergey Sirotkin. K-Mag, on the other hand, sits in tenth in the championship with a respectable 27 points.
