Former F1-driver and cult-hero Pastor Maldonado has said that people shouldn't be comparing
Max Verstappen with him, as the Dutchman is still very young which makes it normal for him to make mistakes
It's been three years since we've seen Maldonado in the F1, but the Venezuelan is still very active in racing, as he participated in the 6 Hours of Spa Francorchamps last weekend. Belgian news source La Derniere Heure took advantage and caught up with Maldonado, asking if the 33-year-old would consider a comeback in the F1.
"I don't have any sponsors at the moment and I'm not being financially backed by my country like I was before," he explained.
"The situation in Venezuela is very tough, but looking at the circumstances it can only get better from here.
In his years in the F1, Maldonado grew a reputation in the sport of being very prone to accidents and collisions. 'Crashtor', people called him.
Max Verstappen has also been involved in many accidents this year, prompting the comparisons to the Venezuelan, but he thinks that that's not fair to Verstappen.
"Max is an amazing driver, but he's still very young," he said.
"It's normal that he makes mistakes every now and again.
"He still has to gain experience, but to compare him to me is inappropriate."
