Max Verstappen experienced a good first day in Bahrain. The Dutchman set the fifth time in the first free practice, but a few hours later he was the fastest on the track. It caused a lot of satisfaction for Helmut Marko.

The Red Bull Racing advisor still has it sharp in his mind that Verstappen won his first world title last season. A few months later, according to Marko, Verstappen's level has by no means gone down, as he was impressed by what the driver of the Austrian racing stable showed.

Among other things, Marko sees Verstappen setting the bar very high for his teammate. "Perez is not yet at the level of Verstappen," Marko told ESPN. "I think the Mercedes are on par with us. Verstappen has impressively shown Hamilton where we stand."

Ferrari shows itself

Besides Red Bull, Ferrari stood out very positively during the first two free practice sessions. Charles Leclerc managed to put the second time on the board twice, while Carlos Sainz grabbed the third spot in both practice sessions. Saturday the third free practice is scheduled, followed by qualifying on the same day.
