The new deal between
Max Verstappen and
Red Bull Racing seems to be getting closer. Earlier it was reported about possible talks between Raymond Vermeulen, Verstappen's manager, and
Helmut Marko. The latter confirmed that the talks have begun.
Immediately after winning his first world title, Verstappen made it known that he wants to stay with his team for another ten to fifteen years. That feeling is mutual, and so the talks between both parties started earlier than usual.
Early contract extension for Verstappen and Red Bull looks imminent
Marko confirmed this during the test days in Barcelona opposite
Auto, Motor und Sport.
"We are in talks," was the answer to the question of whether an early extension is on the cards. The 78-year-old from Graz did not say more.
The parties still have plenty of time to reach an agreement, as the current contract of the world champion still runs until the end of 2023. In addition, Verstappen is expected to want to wait for the first few races of the new
Formula 1 season before re-signing.
