Red Bull advisor Dr
Helmut Marko has revealed that
Max Verstappen was not doing well after the Monaco Grand Prix, as Marko told that he's never seen Verstappen as beaten and depressed as he was in the Principality.
Talking to
Motorsport-magazin, Marko already admitted that he thinks that the criticism towards the Dutchman
is partially justified, but he also realises that the morale of the 20-year-old is low right now.
"I've rarely seen him so beaten and depressed as in Monte Carlo," Marko said.
"He takes this very much to heart.
"It's because his teammate has won while he only drove to a puny ninth place."
When talking about what Verstappen's problem has been this year, Marko disagrees with the general consensus from the media that he's simply reckless. Marko thinks that Max's driving comes from his thirst for always being the best.
"The problem isn't that he's out of control like some people say.
"It is only this unbridled ambition to always want to be ahead in every situation.
"Back on Monte Carlo: he was already three tenths ahead [of Ricciardo] in his lap time.
"When a car gets in the way at the swimming pool part, you have to lift the gas.
"You can't try to set the best time anyway.
"He has to learn that slowly now - being patient.
"And to know when something is important and when it is not important.
