Both
Sergio Perez and
Pierre Gasly started the season with a change of control electronics and batteries. For
Honda it was not a problem-free start to 2021, but
Red Bull Racing advisor
Helmut Marko sees no reason to panic.
Two cars already at the limit
The Austrian let it be known in conversation with
Motorsport-Total.com that the problem was mainly to do with software. Marko doesn't reveal why the components had to be replaced immediately, instead of being repaired.
It is striking that
Honda opted for an immediate replacement, because only two batteries can be used per car per season. Perez and Gasly will have to make do here for the next 22 races.
Good work by Perez
Perez's battery, incidentally, was changed at a late stage and Marko believes that was also the reason why he suddenly found himself without power. "It was sensationally good work from him. He executed all the emergency scenarios as if nothing was wrong and suddenly the power came back," said Marko.
