Another race and another headline from Verstappen but they were not the ones he would have wanted. A possible race win fell by the wayside after contact with Sebastian Vettel in the closing stages of the race.

Head of Red Bull driver development Helmut Marko says that Verstappen made a mistake and "overdid it" in trying to overtake the Ferrari man.

Speaking to Movistar, Marko was honest when he gave his opinion on the incident.

"Max overdid it by trying to overtake Vettel. Yes, it was a mistake from him and he apologised. That can happen in racing.

"That his time will come. He just shouldn't overdo it. He knows what he lost. There was a victory for him on the table, but he gave it away.

"But still it was a very good drive from both our drivers. He is nineteen or twenty, he's bloody young, and it can happen."

Had he not made a mistake in an attempt to overtake Lewis Hamilton and avoided contact with Vettel, Verstappen could have been in a position to win the race or finish on the podium at a minimum.

The Red Bull driver was left to rue his mistake after receiving a 10-second time penalty whilst his teammate Daniel Ricciardo went on to win.
