Red Bull advisor Dr Helmut Marko has revealed that he would rather see his former pupil Sebastian Vettel win the title in his Ferrari than Mercedes win it again, as the two teams are currently battling it out in both championships.
Vettel edged seven points closer to Lewis Hamilton after his win at Spa Francorchamps, meaning the gap between the two championship leaders is now just seventeen points. In the constructors' championship, the gap is now fifteen points as Mercedes gained five points on Ferrari, with Kimi Raikkonen retiring from the race and Hamilton and Valtteri Bottas coming in second and fourth respectively.
As his former boss, Marko knows all about Vettel, and he hopes the German will come out victorious against Hamilton this year.
"Sebastian is currently stronger mentally and he has the better car," he told ServusTV.
"I'd rather see him win than Mercedes.
"I hope that he can regroup like he did with us - he trailed by fifty points in the summer then and he came back incredibly strong after the holidays.
"He handled each race with incredible precision."
With Ferrari's home race coming up at Monza, the Italians are expected to win again, as the circuit favours their more powerful car over Mercedes.
