Mercedes driver Lewis Hamilton has said that he won't be able to "create miracles" in every race, as he calls on his team to collectively step their game up to compete with Ferrari.
The four-time champion still holds the lead of the championship, but only by a slim margin, with Sebastian Vettel now only seventeen points behind Hamilton. The German also seems to have the better papers for this week's race in Italy, as the power-heavy Monza circuit favours the Ferrari's.
Hamilton amazingly took pole position at Spa Francorchamps last weekend despite being out-paced all weekend long by Ferrari, but he quickly got overtaken by Vettel in the race. Vettel drove away and saw the race out.
The Brit now explains that while he's used to beating cars that are faster than him, he can't be expected to do so every race.
"That's how my life's always been -- I started with a really old go-kart and I used to beat people with much better equipment," he told ESPN.
"My dad used to call it a four-poster bed, he said I could drive anything.
"So naturally I feel I can eke a bit more out of it, and I have been in recent races, and beat a faster car.
"But there is only a certain amount I can do - I can't always create miracles.
"But there are still eight races to go and a lot of positives to take into those races, we have just got to keep working on the car and the tyres and optimise that.
"We can still beat them at races, I just don't know which ones it is going to be."
