Former Formula 1 driver Felipe Massa has revealed his plans as he looks to better prepare the future stars of Formula 1. He is currently the president of FIA’s international karting commission and will be racing in Formula E next season.
He spoke about his plans for a shake-up whilst talking in the FIA’s Sport conference. Massa insisted he wants to simplify and unify karting around the world to help youngsters from all countries, to be on the same page.
“I want to try to put all the ASN’s [national motorsport associations] together to try to simplify so many different things - because now we have so many different categories and so many different engines," said Massa.
The Brazilian went on to talk about how drivers from his own country are hampered by the current state of play.
“In a country like Brazil, for example, having the same engines and the same categories as we have here [in Asia] to prepare the drivers when they come to Europe, so they are driving the same engine and the same material," added the former Williams driver.
“I want to give this message to all the ASN’s that we need to be together and be very close and makes things easier than it is.”
It seems like a good plan, but will it all come together? What do you think?
