Speaking to GPBlog and others in Baku ahead of the Azerbaijan Grand Prix, Max Verstappen talks about other racing series. The leader in the 2023 F1 championship has a big preference and rules out another branch of racing.
The Red Bull Racing driver did reveal earlier that he has a passion for long-distance racing. He currently already does a lot of that behind the simulator, where, as part of Team RedLine, he also engages in it professionally. The Dutchman would also like to go into real endurance racing. Preferably with father Jos.
Verstappen: "Endurance. Yes, I love it. Eventually. I keep telling him [Jos], I mean time is ticking, he's getting older but even if it's not with my dad, we'll see. I also have the passion of maybe setting up my own team, so there are a lot of things I would like to do outside of just driving myself."
We will not see Verstappen win the famous Triple Crown. The Dutchman did win the Monaco Grand Prix in 2021, and given his passion for endurance racing, the 24 Hours of Le Mans could be added. But the Dutchman rules out the Indy500.
Verstappen: "I like watching IndyCar, I think there are a lot of great drivers and there are also people I race against so I have a good connection with them. I like seeing them do well but me driving an Indy 500, absolutely not. I might go there and watch but not race."
Well as you all may have guessed I am a passionate Lewis Hamilton fan, I am in awe of the incredible achievement that winning the triple crown in motorsport represents. It is undoubtedly one of the greatest accomplishments in racing, as it demands the mastery of three of the most prestigious and challenging races in the world: the Monaco Grand Prix, the 24 Hours of Le Mans, and the Indianapolis 500.
The reason why winning the triple crown is so challenging is that each race requires a unique set of skills, experience, and a specialized car. The Monaco Grand Prix, for instance, is a street circuit with narrow roads, tight turns, and a lot of elevation changes, making it a daunting race to overtake and stay on track. The 24 Hours of Le Mans is an endurance race that demands drivers to maintain focus and skill for a grueling 24 hours straight, driving through the day and night. Meanwhile, the Indianapolis 500 is an oval track race that necessitates high speeds and the ability to navigate through tight packs of cars.
Graham Hill is the only driver who has accomplished the triple crown of motorsport to date, and as a Lewis Hamilton fan, I can only dream of witnessing Hamilton joining Hill in this exclusive club. Hill achieved this phenomenal feat by winning the Monaco Grand Prix five times (1963, 1964, 1965, 1968, and 1969), the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 1972, and the Indianapolis 500 in 1966. Other great drivers, such as Juan Pablo Montoya and Fernando Alonso, have come close to winning the triple crown by winning two of the three races, but none has matched Hill's incredible achievement.
I am glad Max is loving the WEC, I would live to watch Max and his dad racing together. I didn't race cars with my dad, we loved cycling together, its great to do.
But I understand where Max is coming from with the x3 crown comment.
I like Max' compliments towards IndyCar and I think those guys will appreciate that, after having the feeling F1 is usually overlooking the IndyCar drivers!
Besides that...Max could care less about the Triple Crown, even tho he would have excellent chances of getting it if he wanted to.
Also love the way Max loves WEC and especially how he would love to drive it with his dad. So funny all these people trying to make something about Max' upbringing and his relation with Jos! ? Fact is...the bond the have is better/ stronger than 99% of the farther/sons bonds...including everyone in here!
@JD , "Fact is...the bond the have is better/ stronger than 99% of the farther/sons bonds...including everyone in here!"
