One of the most sought-after people in the Formula 1 paddock is not an F1 driver but an engineer. Adrian Newey is of great value to Red Bull Racing, which has long managed to hold onto him despite offers from rival teams such as Ferrari. Max Verstappen explains why Newey is so important to the team.

What Verstappen appreciates about Newey

Newey has not been tempted by offers from other F1 teams and chose to remain loyal to Red Bull, where he renewed his contract last year. Verstappen explains what he values about the Chief Technical Officer but also stresses that there is another whole technical team behind Newey that is just as crucial.

"We have to acknowledge the whole group of people behind it. Because it's not just Adrian, it's the whole group of engineers around him who also do incredible work," Verstappen said in a conversation with Motorsport-Magazin.com.

He continued: "I see Adrian more like this: you have new talents coming up, and then you just have Adrian. He is like a mentor. A lot of them have questions they can ask him and things they can discuss with him. Adrian is 65 now, so you have to recognise the young talent coming up. I find it fascinating to see how they are now fully working together."

Verstappen: "There is only one Adrian Newey"

"There is nobody like Adrian. That's also the beauty of the fact that everyone is different and everyone achieves success in a different way. So no, you can't replace Adrian, because there is only one Adrian. But it is wonderful to see new talent coming in that he has been working with for a long time. And it's wonderful to see how this talent goes its own way and how we achieve what we achieve," Verstappen said.

I enjoyed reading the kind words of Max, certainly Adrian is a F1 legend in his own right and its important for that knowledge to be passed on to the other engineers around him. I wish he could one day work at Ferrari, and build a Ferrari that could win them a championship, but that may never happen.

In a few years, when Hamilton leaves Ferrari and someone competent becomes Ferrari's boss, it would be nice to see the big three in red: Newey, Wache and Vesrappen

I am sure it will happen Adrian has mentioned that he has wanted to work with certian teams and drivers. Max currently doesn't say if he will go to Ferrari but ,never say never.

I sincerely doubt it - in my opinion, there is a greater chance that Max will end up in Mercedes :)

2026 will be a season that may have drivers swapping teams. I wouldn't be surprised those teams that nail the regs will have Max on speed dial. Max in my opinion will drive for Mercedes and Ferrari during his career, he is only 26 so many more years in F1 with many opportunities. AN is also 65, so he as well has many years left in F1, if we use Marko as the benchmark, so we might see him move to the teams he hasn't had an opportunity to work at, like Ferrari. Italy is nice country to rest and retire lol.

What's wrong with Fred Vasseur? It takes time to change things.

I agree, but I just don't believe in Fred. I hope Iam wrong

FV is a silent art of the deal TP, the guy has made so many deals happen and none suspected a thing. I rate him highly purely because he is a been a TP for racing drivers his career shows that its been a long and successful one. So I agree with you.

Although Newey is the GOAT of car design he can't do it alone. The loyalty to Redbull is one of the most impressive success story's.
